Our Muse: Kona

Kona — affectionately known as Kona Bear — was a spirited Jack Russell Terrier born in the seaside town of Montauk, New York, and raised on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. His days were spent running through Central Park, and his weekends were devoted to long walks and games of fetch along the beaches of the Hamptons.

Evenings were reserved for comfort. When Kona was not curled up on a cherished cashmere blanket, he would burrow beneath the covers — instinctively seeking warmth, security, and closeness.

When life brought his family to Munich, Germany, Kona’s beloved sleeping ritual changed. No longer allowed beneath the covers, he was left without the comfort he instinctively craved.

Determined to recreate the warmth and protection he loved — without compromising on interior elegance — his owner began designing what would become the KONA CAVE® Snuggle Cave Bed.

After years of thoughtful research, extensive prototyping, and meticulous testing, the result was a patent-protected covered cave bed that fulfilled Kona’s natural den instincts while blending seamlessly into a refined home.

In 2017, the KONA CAVE® Snuggle Cave Bed received international patent protection, recognized for its distinctive and functional design.

Kona lived a remarkable life — traveling the world, inspiring two lifestyle pet brands, modeling professionally, and even serving as ring bearer at his parents’ wedding. He brought immeasurable joy to all who knew him.

He passed peacefully in 2020 at the age of sixteen, surrounded by love.

He remains the heart of KONA CAVE®.

Our Founder

KONA CAVE® was founded by Kristen Geldermann, a former executive at Polo Ralph Lauren in New York City. Drawing from over two decades of experience in luxury fashion and design, she set out to create pet products that met the highest standards of beauty, quality, and functionality.

What began as a solution for Kona evolved into a complete lifestyle collection. The KONA CAVE® Travel Mat was designed so dogs could accompany their families to cafés and restaurants with comfort and style. The KONA CAVE® Home Interior Collection followed, offering thoughtfully designed, pet-friendly pieces that complement sophisticated interiors.
